What Can a QR Code Contain?
QR codes can encode many types of data — not just URLs. The decoded content tells you exactly what the code was designed to do.
| Content type | Example decoded text |
|---|---|
| Website URL | https://example.com/page |
| Plain text | Hello, World! |
mailto:name@example.com | |
| Phone number | tel:+441234567890 |
| SMS | smsto:+441234567890:Hello |
| Wi-Fi credentials | WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:password;; |
| vCard contact | BEGIN:VCARD… |
| Geo location | geo:51.5074,-0.1278 |
Tips for Better Detection
For best results, use a clear, well-lit image where the QR code is not obscured, tilted more than ~30 degrees, or smaller than about 30 × 30 pixels. Screenshots of QR codes on screens tend to work well. Heavily compressed or very low resolution images may fail to decode.
