JPG to GIF — When and Why
GIF is the web's native animated format, supported by every browser, email client and messaging platform. Converting a single JPG gives a static GIF with universal compatibility. Adding multiple JPGs creates a looping animation — ideal for tutorials, product demos or social sharing — with no video player required.
Frame Delay Reference
| Delay | Approx. FPS | Good For |
|---|---|---|
| 1000 ms | 1 fps | Slow slideshow |
| 500 ms | 2 fps | Step-by-step demos |
| 200 ms | 5 fps | Smooth animations |
| 100 ms | 10 fps | Fluid motion |
| 40 ms | 25 fps | Near-video quality |
Note on Colours
GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame, while JPG photos can contain millions. Colour quantisation will reduce the palette — this is most visible in gradients and photographs. For photographic animations, consider a lower frame delay to reduce the perceptual impact of quantisation.
